What commercial kitchen flooring needs to handle

Commercial kitchens are wet working environments, even where staff clean spills quickly. Water, fats and food residue can make an otherwise sound surface dangerous underfoot. Epoxy resin flooring is often selected for high-traffic kitchens, food preparation areas and production spaces because it creates a continuous, hard-wearing surface with minimal joints. It can be specified with a textured finish to improve slip resistance and is highly resistant to many oils, stains and cleaning chemicals.

A properly prepared and installed epoxy system is easy to wash down and works well with coved upturns at walls. This helps create a cleaner transition between floor and wall than a standard square junction. It is particularly practical where hygiene control and fast cleaning are key priorities.

The trade-off is that epoxy flooring is heavily dependent on substrate preparation. Moisture in the slab, poor concrete condition or inadequate surface profiling can affect adhesion.
